If they are breaking off from just riding on them then the lugnuts could be in a bind against the wheel. Replace them with the bullet/tuner style nuts for best results. Also make sure that the studs are long enough to reach all the way through the nut.
Yeah thats it. However as pads wear out the fluid level goes down. If there is no leak than dont refill it. When the brakes are replaced, the caliper is compressed which will automatically refill the fluid.
If there is a leak than make sure you use the correct fluid which is probably DOT 3.
