archiving

I just bought and put in an 8 gig sd card for by bb. I was told you can go to the my world tab, hit archive, and then be able to place installed applications onto the sd card. however when i go to do this is says i need to first insert a media card into my device. Any ideas?

I don't want to save chats or to archive them.
