    Audience clap and cheer instead of laugh now?

    I watch comedy central a lot for the shows, but certain days they have the stand up comedy. I noticed that after their jokes, instead of laughs the audience clap and cheer/whistle.     howcome at new york and company(the store) they ring a bell then clap?

    ok i was in the store a few days ago....and they rang a bell like 6 times over half a hour....then claped.....it was busy that day if thats any help
