Why can't you cook frozen chicken in a slow-cooker (crockpot)?

According to the usda website: "Do not cook frozen chicken in a slow cooker or in the microwave; thaw it before cooking). However, chicken can be cooked from the frozen state in the oven or on the stove. The cooking time may be about 50% longer." Why can you cook frozen chicken in an oven but...

Do you like to cook in your crockpot? Got recipes?

It kind of surprised me today when my 23 year old daughter said she was going out to buy a crockpot. She likes to cook, but I never expected her to be a crockpot cooker! She might cook for her roommate and boyfriend, but that's the most she would be cooking for most of the time. An old TA from...

How long should I cook Bruce's canned yams in a crockpot?

I know canned yams are already soft and really shouldn't be used in a crockpot, but I have a pitch-in at work and I would like them to be warm for the lunch. I arrive at work at 6:30, have a 15 minute break at 8:30 and then eat lunch at 11:00. If anyone could let me know when I should start them...

I want to cook 2 cornish hens in the crockpot with fresh green beans and

new potatoes. Help with cook time? I am worried about the veggies becoming mushy. I would not add liquid as I have read in various places that "roasting" them is better and they make some of their own liquid. Just worried about cook time since I won't be there to monitor.
