I think I did something stupid. I dumped a bunch of old cat litter in a gravelly area outside my house. I thought I could just wash it into the ground with a hose and water. But now the area smells really bad. Will it just degrade over time? And if so how long? If not, what can I do?
Why does software degrade? What causes it? Is it down to bad code or design? Can it be prevented? Are there any classic examples of code that degraded causing a major incident in the world somewhere? What do you know about it? :)

I have a Sony home cinema system, with an class D S-Master Amplifier, which I've owned for around 4-5 years now. Basically what I want to know is, does playing music/films at a very loud volume for long durations throughout the life of the system eventually degrade the sound quality, or damage...
...can't pick up sounds as good? I have a ROCK BAND microphone I'm using to record myself playing the guitar with. I put it next to the amp so it will pick up sound really well, and it does. But I don't know if having the volume up too high will make the microphone not pick up sounds as well...
