i would like to be able to hook up my VCR, DVD recorder and the Direct tv box all to the same TV so that I may record to the VCR and still watch shows on the TV or DVD player?

I'm looking to buy a new antenna for my living room TV. I'm looking into the Philips indoor/outdoor model but my brother has an old DirecTV dish that I can have. I wasn't sure if the dish will act as an antenna and pick up broadcast signals or not?
