i record retro games using a dvd-r recorder ( its a samsung dvd r120) and if i put the dvds in my computer they work, but if i put them in the xbox or my ps3 it doesn't even detect a disk being inserted. so are both consoles not compatible with dvd-r format?

I haven't burned anything to a DVD in ages, unless it was a movie I wanted to watch in the living room. With huge external hard drives being so cheap, have you quit using optical media for storage?
