Hello. I'm new to Linux, I installed it 2 days ago and I'm getting used to it, it's good but one thing I really miss from Win 7 is the taskbar. Is there any way to add it? Would changing the desktop environment to GNOME do that? If yes, then how do I change it?
I agree with Shawn Powers that Unity has offended all that is good in this world by aggressively grabbing so much of my screen real estate much like Hitler grabbed the Rhineland.
Well, OK, S.P. is not so Godwinesque in his language, but still.... Unity = Microsoft-like marketing oriented...
i have a gnome tank that i just started and i dont know whether to spec fury, arms, or protection. im pretty sure its not protection but still, i need some help
Not that you would ever muck them up, but just in case:
Get a terminal somehow (alt+F2 if you must). Type this in:
gconftool-2 --shutdown
or
gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel
(or, both if you like)
Then,
rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
pkill gnome-panel
that sounds like a lot of...
And, in theory, this should apply to other software as well, but don't get mad at me if something goes terribly wrong....

I use Gnome, not KDE.
(Pause for flame war.)
However, there are a handful of apps that are designed for KDE that I prefer over the Gnome apps. But that presents one or two minor problems that can be easily fixed.

Hi, I know this is probably the 100th time someone has asked this question but on Sims 2 PS2 on Story Mode (Cliffside Retreat) I can't seem to get the Gnome Cheat working! I press the start button and then go into one of the options for e.g. progress I type in the Gnome Cheat and 1 of 2 noises...
