Which of these two Channel islands is the best island for tourists - for a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere with historical and pretty sites as well?

...great but similar would be good too? The dates would be from 14/15/16th (travel tickets dependent) August 2010 until 19th August. Just for me and 2 well behaved kids to park up at my sisters house and look around the island too. Googling hasn't been successful so far so suggestions of anyone...
