patriotism

I have to write an essay about why patriotism is still important and i ran out of ideas !

I find the constant use of "patriotism" as a shield for everything said and done quite disturbing in modern America as there is no rebuttal for it. Should patriotism be used so loosely as a justification for one's beliefs?
