I have two differnt model motorola radios, a talkabout T9500 and a Motorola XTN XU2600. I set the same chanel and frequency on both radios and nothing. What am I doing wrong?
I'd suggest getting a battery with a solar charger, such as the PowerMonkey, and using that to charge your devices. You can retain the charger even after the device becomes obsolete. Some hand-crank radios are better than others but I wouldn't trust one to give consistent voltage to a cellphone...

Are there any handheld radios or walkie talkies that can work long range in the city? (about 2-7 miles) That is available for civilian commercial uses.
I turn one of them on, and i get steady static until the "Transmit" button is pushed down. The other one does the sam thing however the static is fainter..... Thanks in advance!
