its the ring and pinion gears and together most people call them a chunk its really not had to change and almost fool proof "almost" i would say get a chiltons or haynes manual from your local auto parts store and read though it and see what you think hope this helps

however did not pull pinion now it howl? now the rearend howls while up on jack could pinion cause this problem? have turned adjusters in each axle tube both directions and still howls
