    Minecraft newbie SSP or SMP?

    I just joined minecraft, and have been planning out my house/base. My problem is, I don't know if I should build it in SSP or in SMP. Are the two interchangable? For example if I build a house in Single will it also be in Multiplayer? Also, do I have to set up my own server on multiplayer...
