my speakers seem low to me on my motorola v9x, how do i make the speakers louder. (Im not talking by pressing the buttons on he side)

I got this phone in december 2008 and it worked fine till a few months ago until it stopped charging every time i plugged it into a wall. I bought a new battery and it still doesn't charge. What is the problem? Please help. Thank you.
