Wireless internet like this is like a cell phone plan, the kind where you get only so many minutes and any time you spend talking after that you get charged for. You get charged by the month as long as you keep under the usage cap, typically anywhere from 2GB to 25GB.

Once you go over that cap, you get charged by usage, usually at ridiculous prices like $2 a MB. Since he got these overage charges, it's likely his usage cap is low. It's easy to exceed low caps on sites like YouTube, unfortunately.

He has one for work. And he let me use it for my laptop because for some reason the wireless internet doesnt work in my room. Today he told me theres a crap load of charges on his bill. I don't understand.. i thought you paid by the month? I was just using facebook and youtube.

Why is the bill so much when i though it was only paying by the month?

And im 14 by the way.. and i will admit that i was using the telus stick pretty much every day. :/

That is how I ended up in debt.

I let my brother use my Orange USB broadband all he did was go on facebook, hotmail, youtube and myspace probably not even for an hour a day. I also checked what he had been on by my own private account so he wasn't over using it.

I get a bill through the post for £300 more than I usually paid (after being told I had 20gb a month)

So I rang up asked them what was going on. They said I had used my whole 20 gb > LIE! It had refreshed only to days before my brother used it and I barely used it.

So I told them to shove it, and now they are perusing me for £1000+

Let this be a lesson learned to you kid, never take a contract. They are nothing but lies and not even solicitors can undo it once you have signed that paper.

Maybe your dad had a small amount of bandwidth each month and you used it all. Or they are lying trying to con him out of a few extra ££ or $$.
