Thanks for the help troubleshooting! 77 ford F350 truck - V8.

Runs normal then randomly dies. I've pulled the secondary coil wire and I get a spark to ground...SOMETIMES.
When the key is turned all the way to start-NO SPARK, when the key is released...A COUPLE OF SPARKS.
To clarify, when cranking it will turn over forever without starting....
WHEN THE KEY IS RELEASED, it will start.

Ignition switch is new and acts the same as the one I replaced.

Hard to troubleshoot cause sometimes it starts and runs normal.

I know the start circuit is different than the run circuit.(to the coil), but then why the intermittent shutdown, on the highway or idling on the street??

I've looked for loose wires and connections. Replaced the ignition switch. Usually ECM's (electronic control modules) are NOT flaky. When they go out, they're usually out for good.

thanks for the answers! Joseph.
