1977 truck wont start, hear a hum?

ive got a 1977 f100, only used about once a week, and the last time trying to start it the engine didnt turn over at all, i hear a hmmm noise like when you have speakers hooked into a stereo but without music, and noticed if i kept the key in the start position that there would be slight smoke off the postiive battery terminal. I had the battery checked at a store and it is fine............any ideas?
