1991 Ford Explorer stalling after about 2 miles?

Its a manual clutch and it will drive for about 2 miles then chuga chuga chuga. It will idol for as long as you want but when you put it in gear after a certain distance it will stall. but you can shut it off and start it right back up and your good for another two miles. any idea's?
