Try shifting to low range and see if it works,  I used to drive grand cherokees and if I remember correctly, the AWD version that came with the V8 was a fluid based system that allocated power to whichever wheels could use it most.  probably more electronics in that system than the typical 4WD system (where the axles lock and you get the front wheel skip making sharp turns)</p></blockquote><p></p>
