hi my friend has a 1995 RM 250 and we were wondering what is the recommended factory oil that goes in the gear box? is it gear oil, motor oil, or ATF. and what grade thanks
"Gear oil" and "ATF" are never to be used in the crankcase of 2 stroke engines.
Use 10W30 or 10W40 motor oil.
API SE, SF,SG type or higher.
Do not use oils labeled "Energy Conserving"
You may wish to call a Suzuki dealer for what the manufacturer recommends.
I used 40-65W gear-lube in my Yamaha gear boxes for years without any problems.
Just make SURE that the oil is for motorcycle usage and does no contain any 'friction reducers' as they will make the clutch go south pretty quick. AND NEVER use ATF. period!
gear oil, about 80w is a good choice for that motor. i prefer to run belray gear saver in my bikes, but thats just personal preference. hope this helps you
