1996 Chevrolet K1500 (second time)?

Was lookin at this truck and noticed there were just about 234,000 miles on it. I know thats allot but what happends with the engine or anything when it has that many miles? And how can you fix/ prevent those problems?
This truck is in good condition, ecept for the miles. for $2500. Would it be worth getting?

I just talked to the dealer, he said he just got the truck 2 weeks ago and doesnt know when or if the transmission was ever replaced
. Still think i sould buy this?
If i had to get a transmission replacement how much would that be?
The truck is extended cab with 4wd, from what ive seen the truck is pretty clean, interior is in good condition, same thing with the exterior.
 
that's a lot of miles and it would have to be exceptionally clean for that much, a transmission for that vehicle to rebuild is between 14-18 hundred, junk yard 5-8 hundred, the dealers will tell you they just got vehicle to cover there you know what, i work for 3 car lots and its a c.y.a deal, for me it would have to be a extended cab with that many miles,
