I have a Cavalier with 186000 on the engine. I loaned my sister the car so that she would have a car for work. Last fall, the starter, transmission, drive belt, plugs and wires, new battery, new muffler were all replaced on the car. It runs like a dream. There's only a small problem. It has been tested for alternator problems by 2 auto part stores and several mechanics and nothing seems to be wrong there. Once in a while the car is hard to crank even after all the repair work. It runs better than my 2003 Grand Am which has only 45,000 miles on the engine. One of the original owners had a tracking device installed in the car and wired it themselves. It has caused all types of electrical items to short out or not work. The driver side powered window, the cigarette lighter, dome light don't work because of improper installation. My mechanic thinks that there is a power drain coming from that box. He disconnected all the wires to the box, but somewhere there's a drain which causes the battery to lose power. We are trading the car in this year for a newer one. So I don't want to invest more money into the car. It cost almost $3000 in repairs last year. How can you fix a power drain? Thanks for any answers.
