My 1999 Jeep Cherokee Grizzly keeps on overheating.

I just got my friend, who was a mechanic, to put a new thermostat on it, and flush the entire system. All the hoses, radiator, and the heating core.

I drove it around, and for the first bit it was running good. But later on in the night it said it was overheated again, and it wouldn't go back down. So I stopped driving.

I left the rad cap off to allow air bubbles to escape through the night just in case there were any, then I filled it back up this morning. I managed to driving it two blocks from house and back before it said overheating again.

But this time as I slowed down it dropped, but then went back up again when I got back to my house.

If anyone knows what could be causing this, please let me know, it's really confusing me.
