2001 Ford Escort with no electrical power. How should we fix this?

The battery died sometime last night (which is fishy because we didn't leave the lights on or anything), so when we tried to start it today it just wouldn't work. None of the electrical features were active, either. So we jumped it and the car started....but the electrical features still didn't work. The only sign of power that I saw was when I turned the car to 'on' without turning the ignition, the check oil light and battery light were faintly lit. The main 100a fuse doesn't have a little plastic top like every other fuse in that box, so I thought maybe it had blown (I admit...when we jumped it I did reverse the polarity) Could the fuse really be the only problem? Or do you think the problem is something else? And where do I find a replacement fuse, if it is indeed blown? (I checked Wal-Mart but I wasn't surprised that they didn't have it). Thank you!

When you reversed the polarity, you may have blown the fuse - but I'm confused because in the question you said it started with a jump? Almost all auto supply outlets carry these maxi fuses, but, again, if the car started with a jump, that's not the problem.
Before you can really diagnose the concern, you're going to have to get the battery charged up and go from there.
