I have a 2003 Ford Focus which just rolled over 100,000 miles.

I recently had the ignition switch replaced and have bipassed the clutch's starter switch because it was a consistent problem (no big deal, it just starts old school now).

The problem I'm having now is that intermittently, the car won't crank. The radio and lights will start just fine, but when I go to start the engine, everything goes dead. Turn the key back, everything else turns back on, but no crank. Give it a few hours and it will start up just fine.

It tends to flare up particularly when I've been driving it and have stopped the car to do something for a few minutes, like to fuel up or run in to the store to buy milk or something.

Any ideas? I have considered the solenoid in the starter and am imagining that the mechanic will start there as well. Any idea how much it SHOULD cost to replace a starter in a 2003 Ford Focus?
