Last month I purchased a used 2004 Hyundai Elantra. It sat unused for about a month and a half until I was able to afford the taxes for it - I'm 17 and work a part time job. The car had half a tank of gas in it and when I finally started driving it everything was okay, meaning the gas gauge when down accordingly. When I went to fill the car for the first time the gas pump kept clicking as if it was full, but it was only a quarter of a tank full (which is where the starting point was). After three or four clicks I finally got it to go and as the car was being filled the entire time it made this strange suction sound. Finally, at about 10 and a half gallons later I stopped because if I already had about 5 gallons in and I put another ten in - that is half a gallon past the small sedan's tank size. Does anyone know what may be wrong and why after driving 50 miles my car's gauge is still reading well past four? Thanks
