For those who believed that $4 gasoline and a teetering Michigan economy would put a damper on the 2008 Woodward Dream Cruise, we can safely say: Wrong! So wrong, in fact, that the 2008 Woodward Dream Cruise might be the best turnout in the history of the event. Oakland County Sheriffs estimated that 1.4 million people and somewhere near 40,000 vehicles are circling the cruise route today. Encouraged by warm, clear weather, the event is going strong now and will continue until 9:00 p.m., when police will begin to close down the route and send cruisers into sidestreets to shuttle traffic away from Woodward.
NextAutos was on hand as a part of the Dream Show, the Dream Cruise’s first ever organized car show. The event, consisting of ten vehicle classes and held at the Northwood Shopping Center at 13 Mile and Woodward, was a resounding success. Organizers of the show Dick Ruzzin, Tim Hartge and Dale Dawkins created a first-class event, with 50 vehicles amongst ten classes. We played a part in judging the factory performance and heavily modified muscle car classes. Dan Webb’s custom wedge roadster won Best in Show.
