Although it’s early in the 2011 baseball season, it’s never too early to take a look at who’s in good position to take home an MVP award. First, we’ll take a look at the 2011 American League MVP candidates. As of right now, there are five players out in front of the race.
Here are the 2011 AL MVP candidates:
1. Jose Bautista, Toronto Blue Jays
Jose Bautista is proving that last year wasn’t a fluke. He’s currently second in batting average (.353) and first in homers with 18.
2. Adrian Gonzalez, Boston Red Sox
The new best player for the Red Sox is on fire. He’s hitting .328 with nine home runs and an American League best 41 RBIs.
3. Curtis Granderson, New York Yankees
From a bust to an MVP candidate, Curtis Granderson has had quite the turnaround. Although his batting average is average, he has 16 homers and 34 RBIs.

4. Asdrubal Cabrera, Cleveland Indians
The underrated shortstop for the Indians is playing great this season. He’s hitting .302 with nine homers and 32 RBIs.
5. Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox
At 31, Josh Beckett is having his best season of his career. He has a 1.73 ERA, a WHIP of 0.92 and has 52 strikeouts in 57 innings.
