I have a 2000 honda civic lx. The stock alternator is 70 amps. I have a sub system in my car (1000 watts rms). I was thinking of switching that one out for a 2000 watt system and for that I will need to get a high output alternator, a heavy duty cycle battery, and awg wiring (the "big three"). There is a 165 amp alternator for my car but there is also a 220 amp also. If I get the 220 amp, will the extra amps harm my car if they aren't being used? Will the 220 hurt me at all if I install it vs. the 165? Thank You!

that won't be the case, the alternator will produce only as much current as your system is drawing from it. go with the 220 amp
