I'm 32 and am suddenly having strange cramps. I'm expecting my period in a couple days.

It's this sharp pain on the left side of my uterus that also feels like it's in my back. When it strikes it feels like it's traveling up and down and back and forth.

I first thought it was my back and was very concerned at how I could have hurt it. I know my period cramps should be coming around now. I usually have very heavy cramps but NOTHING like this.

I've had my period for 21 years and I've never felt a cramp like this. Should I make a doctor's appointment?
It's on my left side, so I don't think it could be my appendix, which is on the right.

Thanks.

Firstly, your appendix is on your right.
Could it be a kidney stone? If so, you can go to the hospital and they can give you something to help with the pain, plus possibly treatment for the stone.
It sounds weird, but I've also had really really bad gas pains that presented as pain in my side/back area. It felt like maybe my kidneys, and was super intense, radiating pain. A while later I experienced more typical gas symptoms. I know it is also common for women to experience more gas just before their periods.

Nothing wrong with going and getting this checked out by your doctor.
