5.9 Cummins 97 truck with a 94 motor. Engine warms up driving down road -engine flutters at 2000 rpms let off throttle it continues to run at 2000 rpms then shuts down with no response on throttle coast to stop, turn switch off, restarts with some cranking. engine starts to warm up driving down road empty engine flutters at 2000 rpms let off throttle it continues to run at 2000 rpms then shuts down with no response on throttle coast to stop, turn switch off, restarts with some cranking. ticking from injector pump pulsates motor and misses then goes away. Have replaced fuel filter, pump and heater assembly for fuel

This is commonly caused by a sensor malfunction, secondly because of a low coolant or oil level. What you're describing sounds like it is going into "shut down" mode - this is to protect the engine from low oil level or pressure, high operating temperature, low coolant level, etc.
#1) Check your coolant overflow tank level. I had a Volvo that had to be at the "Maximum Fill" level (instead of in-between maximum and minimum like you would think). Top it off.
#2) Check your engine oil level. Top it off.
#3) Check your coolant level sensor (in coolant tank) and engine temperature sensors (block and head).
Any of these can cause the engine to go into "shut down" mode. If you do not find the problem by the above simple checks then you probably need to take it to a dealer to have the engine trouble codes checked - probably charge you about $50 - ask price first.
