I'm genuinely curious. This question is geared more towards the "controlled demolition" folks. I've heard out both sides of the debate extensively, and knowing enough about militant Islamic movements... it just seems more likely to me that even if the American government did see a benefit in blowing up the WTC, it would be much easier to let other people who already had the capability and the motive carry out the attacks.
I also don't believe anything about the Illuminati, "ZOG" or any other tiny group of people who secretly manipulate everything for some grand metaphysical purpose. I think that's a result of a simplistic view of the world and an effort by largely uneducated people to be able to say, "I understand the world now!" As a historian, it seems to me that the social systems and processes of human life on this planet are too complex to simply ascribe it all to one calculating cabal of cackling, colluding conspirators.
But I'm open to any idea out there. And again, I am curious: If you do believe in an international conspiracy, was 9/11 a given for you, or did that day lead you down that path?
