92 vw jetta gl-temperature light and guage problems?

well, for starters, the gauge doesn't move when i start the car. the temperature light is always blinking. it's been like this for a few months now. car runs excellent. in the past year, i've changed different parts of the cooling system including water pump, thermostat, radiator and fan. could the temperature gauge itself be faulty. i always thought that the whole interior cluster panel failed together.
 
You may need a new sending unit but before you do that check your ground wires as they can cause alot of really strange troubles
