Three days ago, the top hinge of my 95 Jeep Cherokee 2Dr popped off from the frame...I know it needs a weld job...any idea how much such a thing might reasonably cost. One estimate I got was between 700 and 1000 bucks...more than the truck is worth...and it seems way too expensive for a simple weld job.

Trouble is, when the hinge popped off, the locking mechanism engaged while the door was open. These are manual locks, not electric, and I haven't been able to get the door to shut since. (So to recap: Door is off one hinge, lock is engaged, door won't shut) Can anyone tell me how the best way is to go about opening the door panel, unscrewing the manual window crank, and getting the lock solenoid to disengage (all without damaging any interior components of said door)? I've tried just about everything short of taking the interior panel off and going inside the door itself...my e-mail is [email protected] if anyone has any advice. Thanks!!!!

The estimate you got based on the concerns in your question seem rather high. I suspect the door will have to be removed and a reinforcement plate welded onto the A pillar so a new hinge can be attached. The lock mechanism can more than likely be repaired once the door trim is removed.
The parts should be limited to a new hinge and possibly a latch assembly for the door.
The entire job shouldn't take more than four or five hours.
