My boyfriend has a 97 Intrepid that doesn't want to start. Its a 6-cly, I can't remember the liters. Its supposed to be the NA SCAR inspired one, or at least that's what he was told when he bought it. Anyway. This is the second time its happened since Christmas. The car tries to start, but it doesn't quite turn over. Last time he disconnected the battery to take it to NAPA to test it, and they said it 100%. When he hooked it back up it started right up. Yesterday it did the same thing. But this time when he disconnected the battery and reconnected it, it didn't start. He put the battery charger on it over night, but it still won't start. I was thinking that it may be because of the cold. But it wasn't that cold when it happened in December, and I have a 93 Taurus with 295,000 miles on it that starts every morning (Sorry, I'm really proud of that. :)) So I figure that if my car starts every morning is sub zero weather, his should too, given that its newer, half as many miles and the same maintaince record. I also called the local Chrysler dealer's service center yesterday, but they told me that a 97 is too old for them to work on and that they couldn't give me any advice. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Before we go and sink another grand into this car. We just dumped almost a grand into the front end in November because the tie rod disinigrated, both wheel barrings were bad, and it needed an alignment that they had to use torches for. And my mom wonders why I hate Mopar (not that it really exists anymore) long live Ford! Anyway, again, any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Replace the starter and take it to have checked.
Also if you can have the ignition module checked, might be shot.
The worst thing could be is that the motor is a goner. Chain is probably broken, cam is broken or motor is hydrolocked too, who knows?
Word of advice-if you get the car running- SELL IT FAST!!
This is the reason why CHRYSLER is going belly up. The reliability is not there. Not worth spending $1000 if you can get a used good foreign vehicle for that amount, and will last for miles and miles.

First I would replace the battery terminals. If that doesn't cure the problem, change the starter (it may have a "flat" spot on it). It's probably the starter, or the ignition switch.
