Wolfsburg Ed. 2.0L gas engine, manual trans. I just recently changed the gasket on the oil filter housing, as it was leaking like a faucet. After putting everything back together, no more oil leak, but another problem. Parked with the E-brake on and in neutral I can rev the motor up to 6000 or more if I want, but once I'm in gear the engine cuts out around 2000 rpm. I press down the gas pedal and it accelerates to 2000, then cuts out, almost like a governor. It will go back to 1000 rpm and then kick in again and accelerate to 2000. When it cuts out, I can let go of the gas pedal and press it again, and sometimes it will kick in again and I can get it to rev up to 3000rpm before it kicks out. It never stalls when it does this, just goes back to idling until it kicks back into gear. I can't get it to go over 80km/h in fifth gear no matter what I do. It just keeps kicking out to an idle and then back into gear again.
Now, the fact that I changed the gasket and this new issue could be completely unrelated.. I just thought it may be worth mentioning. I know that when you fix one thing, something else goes wrong; it happens all the time.
Any help on this would be appreciated. My brother mentioned speed sensor... what u think?
