...doctor is a bike ride thru the dogs? And that doctor may not even be open anyway. Its not really a deep cut, it just stings a bit when I move my leg. It bit my leg while I was riding my bike. The wound is in my lower calf. If it was any other cause I wouldn't be particularly concerned about it, but since its an animal bite I'm a little concerned about contracting rabies or some other serious disease.

I could just wait until morning and ask people at work (I'm an English teacher here) but I'm worried that if rabies is a concern that may be too late.

What do you think?
Correction, its 8pm. Not 7.
I washed the cut off in the shower when I got back. I got bit about 40 minutes ago, so 7:10.

Hi! I heard the best preventative measure of getting rabies is to wash the wound straight away. I would definitely get yourself checked out asap as somebody from close by recently died from rabies. She contracted it from a dog which bit her in S. Africa back in November 2006 and had rabies all this time. You won't know til the symptoms appear and by that stage it is too late as 99% of people die then so definitely get yourself checked out soon as there are drugs you can take now which can help. Do you know if the dog itself looked sick? If it starts to foam at the mouth etc, then you can be pretty sure. Good Luck! Hope this helped!

EDIT
By the way...the chances of you actually getting rabies is very small so don't freak out just yet. The girl that died recently was the first person to get it from here since like the 1920's or something so the chances are small but of course get yourself checked out all the same!
