A hopefully complicated and complex riddle...?

My cousin told me this riddle and when I couldn't figure out the answer, he kept saying how stupid I was and that this was the easiest riddle ever. He kept saying how obvious the answer was, and when he finally told me what it was, it was definately not obvious...or at least I think so. So to hopefully prove my cousin's theory that this riddle was not obvious, I decided to ask the Yahoo! community to see if this riddle really was obvious. Good luck!
