also open to a cynical quote.
The only example I have is a poem by John Dyer:
A little rule, a little sway,
a sunbeam in a winter's day
is all the proud and mighty have
between the cradle and the grave

(I realize that that poem isn't really funny, but it rhymes, so...)

I don't know who said this but I think "the devil's in the detail" is a great way of thinking about politicians' grandiose schemes and why they fail.

I also like Groucho Marks' line "I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me as a member".

Or Oscar Wilde "We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars"

If you think you have a problem now - just wait til I have solved it ??

I don't mind giving without return
Blood and love were meant to give
Ah, but when I'd emptied my heart to learn
That I'd poured it into a sieve.

-Don Blanding, early 20th century American poet

"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away" - Philip K. Dick, 20th century sci-fi author
