. . . and she's a quirky little thing. She started coming around our house when she was obviously in heat (always being trailed by at least one male cat), as though she was seeking asylum. Husband started feeding her, and we made her a box with a blanket in it, etc. She is an outdoor cat -- I have seen her capture and consume mice on three occasions now -- and comes inside randomly. She has even started scratching on the windows and meowing to come inside. She can be affectionate, of course on her own terms, and seems to trust us, but she is still quite skiddish.
Problems: I've never had a cat before. I don't know what to expect, and I don't know how to handle her quirks. There are lots of strays in our neighborhood, and I know we should get her fixed, plus get her shots, etc. But, I have no idea how to GET her to a vet. She will not allow us to pick her up.
Any suggestions, jewels of wisdom, things I absolutely need to know? I'm not even sure we are feeding her appropriately (dry Meow Mix in the morning, and wet poultry flavors Friskies in the evening). There's so much conflicting info on the web, and I am clueless -- especially until I can get her to the vet.
