Following up from the below question where an answer said that people can glorify God by offering up their suffering as joinment to Christs suffering-im curious about this.
What purpose would this serve?Christ doesnt exactly need our empathy/empathising with what he went through as this will not achieve anything for Him.
Also isn't there enough sickness out there and so many people suffering already without us needing to promote it and make a 'career' out of it?
If catholics promote suffering as good/ebenevolent then won't general public society get confused and feel they should continue to suffer-that they somehow glorify from it or it glorifies God-instead of taking a medicine to fix it and continuing to a better, healthy happier life?
Won't this confuse life and end up with a whole bunch of people who say to doctors "no thanks to that medicine your offering,i choose to suffer this" and this is sort of twisted-no?
Couldn't it them end up with families telling their wives/siblings/children "please take those pills(or herbs etc) that can fix your kidney problem and get better" and the wive(or other) responding "no i will choose to suffer this and offer it up to identify with Christ"-Couldn't this then cause family discord and division?

Is this joining of sickness suffering to Christs suffering something that catholics HAVE to do?
Ie:is it infallible teaching or personal decision?
