activating a smartphone with verizon?

i am currently an added line on a family plan with an lg chocolate and i wanna upgrade to a motorola q9m smartphone. am i gonna have to pay for a data plan for email and internet if i dont wanna use them at all? can i just ise it like a normal phone with just my texting plan? i dont wanna buy that phone if i have to pay extra every month. thanks

Unfortunately yes, you will have to pay extra for a data plan.

you have two options:
a $25 a month low data/mgb charge
or $50 unlimite internet.


If you do not wish to pay this every month(which trust me, i understand),
then you shouldnt purchase that phone.

It is mandatory and that motorola q9m cannot be activated without some sort of data plan.
