You mean advertisements? In most cases you will get them even if you have an ad blocker because the website puts them in a necessary directory to get other things, like photos for the site. This means that if you do block the directories, you'll loose all pics on that site. Adblockers use default folder names or web addresses (such as ad.mycompany.com) so it won't pick up on all the ads, just most of them.
Your best bet is to turn off your automatic acceptance of cookies. This way you can see the various web sites that are trying to get you to accept a cookie. You can find those settings at: Tools -> Options -> Privacy ->Cookies...make sure you have the accept third party cookies unchecked and that your browser has to ask you what to do with the cookies.
The only thing that has to have an "allow" are to do with passwords and such things that you want to keep from one session to the next. All others that you want to allow should be "allow for session" and anything else is block. Make sure you have the remember settings box checked when you are accepting/blocking the cookies otherwise you will have to do it EVERY time. This way you'll have to do it only once per website (unless they get other sponsor sites).
