I frequently buy components from a company who dispatch from Hong Kong. Their delivery times are very regular, e.g. If I order on or just before a Monday/Tuesday the order will arrive the following Mon/Tue.

With the recent eruptions there could be delays. I put an order in on Sunday 11th April, Processed on the 12th, and that is usually when it is sent out.

I have a HK Post tracking number, but it has no relationship with reality. It can say the package has just been sent that day, when it has already arrived in the UK.

This is the core question: Would this airmail package be put on a plane straight away and then sit in UK customs, then go through the Royal Mail delivery system, or would it be more likely the other way round?

What I'm trying to establish is the possibility it got to the UK before the Volcanic eruptions closed UK air space.

The packaging is a small cardboard box, 6x4x2 inches, customs label, with a "1 Postage Paid Hong Kong" in the top right. It requires to be signed for on arrival at my home.
