I work in a steelmaking shop, and they give everyone radios, the Motorola HT-750 (HT750). I was thinking about getting one of these for my own use, but I checked the prices, and they're insanely expensive ($500+).
What's so special about them/why are they so expensive? You can find 2-way radios anywhere for around $50-$100. What are some alternative models that will work with the channels/frequency?
Is this style radio similar to a CB Radio? Do they operate on the same frequency/signal etc?
Basically, I'm looking for a radio that I could use at work in the shop, and on the road to get CB channels (breaker 19, etc). Can a single radio do both of those? What else would I have to know about these things (I'm an engineer, it's ok to get technical). Thanks in advance.
I'm willing to spend a couple hundred bucks on a radio, just as long as it's actually worth it. What is it in the HT750 that makes it so expensive?
Also, let me know what are some good accessories (alternate batteries, earpiece/handpieces, etc etc).
