i play chess on line a lot and have about a four second lag time with the clock, my download speeds are sufficient but was told the highest upload guaranteed is approx 300 kbps. Most say with online gaming the upload and download speeds should be approximately even....any suggestions?
perhaps i should clarify: yahoo chess games have clock; when i make a move on MY computer screen, it takes approximately 2-4 seconds for the gameclock to register that move. This is clearly a case of upload speed isn't it or am i missing something?

Well, you're going to always have that latency, because satellite has to send the data into space, thousands of miles away, the back to earth. For this reason, you will always have that 4 second lag, and you cannot change it unless you get cable, dsl, or fiber to the curb.

Not true at all, no ISP provides equal up and down speeds that I'm aware of. My brother-n-law has HughesNet and has no issues at all, and he plays online games like Yahoo BJ. I would check your system and do a god spyware sweep with something like Malwarebytes, spybot search and destroy, hijackthis just to make sure you're not infected.
