Amare Stoudemire needs to learn how to use Twitter. When you’re famous and people take shots at you, your best bet is to just ignore that person. If they really bother you, go ahead and block the person. But you don’t curse at them or call them derogatory names — even on a direct message. Amare Stoudemire found that out the hard way recently.
Someone on Twitter called out Amare Stoudemire and he responded by sending that guy a direct message with a homophobic slur. His direct message became public and Amare Stoudemire was fined $50,000 by David Stern.
At least Amare Stoudemire was man enough to apology.
Said Stoudemire: “I am a huge supporter of civil rights for all people. I am disappointed in myself for my statement to a fan. I should have known better and there is no excuse.”
Hopefully Amare Stoudemire uses better judgement next time. $50,000 for a direct message? Not even a multimillionaire like Amare Stoudemire can afford that.
