A colleague of my wife's is in the UK for 2 years, he's originally from California.

As part of his cultural orientation their team have decided to put together a "must eat" food list for him to sample whilst he is here.

I assume "carbs" will be a new concept as he's from California, but what else? What would UK MAPpers get visitors to try? Have any US MAPpers got favourite UK foods?

I'm suggesting mushy peas (with mint sauce of course) and curry. All of it. Plus beer. All of that too

Black pudding, scouse, shepherds pie, cottage pie, bread and butter pudding, cumberland sausage, bacon butties, fish and chips.

LOL! I see you and I agree on a lot of our suggestions - I forgot to put Yorkshire pud on my list, and mushy peas are a definite must!

I served the kids mushy peas for the lolz. They looked at the bright green fare that was placed in front of them, then looked at the with the look of "is this really food"?
They all ate it though.

Mushy peas should be on everyone's 'must eat' list.

If he's from California, you really should introduce him to the health-fest that is deep fried Mars bar!

Black Tripe - cold with vinegar and salad
Black Pudding
Fish, Chips & Mushy Peas
Steak and Kidney Pie

Apple crumble?
Spotted D i c k?
Christmas pudding?
Rice pudding?

the fried mars bar, the fried twix, the fried cream egg and the fried snicker.

the tonic (made by monks drank by drunks) of course as has already been suggested, Guinness (not strictly from the UK but a favorite on this island) and irn bru do they have those in California ?

Trifle? Pork pie. Full English with fried bread (the whole concept of fried bread freaks out my american friends).
