Android removing HTC sense?

Hi I have the HTC hero, im trying to disable the HTC sense, I do this by going into applications, manage, then finding HTC sense then pressing clear defaults and force close, when I press home from here it simply returns to HTC sense interface because I don't have the "home" alternative there, how can i get this back?
