I have iron deficiency anemia, and recently started taking birth control (Yaz) to lighten my period, among other things. I took my first pill 11 days ago on the first day of my period, and my period just hasn't stopped. Usually it lasts about 5 days.
I know it's normal to have a long period the first month, but I can feel my anemia worsening - I feel depressed and emotional, my hair is falling out, I'm tired all the time. I've been taking double iron pills for the past few days to try and correct it.
What I'm wondering is, at what point to I call my doctor? I've heard stories of month-long periods, and I really don't think I can do that, given how terrible my anemia makes me feel.
But...other than the period, I'm really enjoying the birth control, and would like to give my system a good chance to adjust to it.
